    You might have a shock if you come over to NZ. Be kind? Here wallabies are shot and poisoned. Government classes them as a pest. Xtermin8.

    90% of bites from funnel webs are survivable without anti venom. Even most Australians don't understand these spiders 🤦

    I grew up in the Western district Victoria and had a lot of frill neck lizards around when I was a kid, a long time back. Yes we had the bearded dragon, blue tongue and frill neck, they are very different would not mix them up. As sussiman said and I agree they were a different colour to the one your holding up and also a bit smaller.

    • @WickedWildlife
      @WickedWildlife 13 днів тому

      I actually live in the western district, we do not have frilled neck lizards like they do up north, but our local eastern beardies come in a variety of colours It’s actually very easy and understandable people mix them up, the comment below yours is from a lady with qualifications in land management and when we where sent the photo it was still confirmed to be an eastern bearded dragon It would be amazing to have frillies down here though!

      @@WickedWildlife Yes I know the beardies but they are not the same as the frill neck. I find it sad if they no longer have them there. Like aussie said awhile since they have seen one in central Vic. but they had them there when they were a kid. There is a fair age difference between you and me and they were around there when I was a kid.

    Australian marsupials are the cutest animals in the world. Unfortunately the Australian government and most of the population selfishly don't care if they go extinct if their survival inconveniences them in any way.

    Something about Coastal Taipans that makes me nervous. I don’t know what it is but give me a black mamba over a taipan any day of the week. Maybe it’s the fire orange evil eyes they’ve got but there’s something about them that makes me wanna run. And before anyone says anything about them being poisonous yeah I know that it’s more the vibe of them than anything.

  • @Kitsune1989
    @Kitsune1989 16 днів тому

    My opinion on freehandling is that there is a time and place for it. There are times where its easier and safer to use hands over a hook because a hook can be difficult to manouver in certain situations. That being said there are certain species that id never freehandle for a variety of reasons. For instance gaboons are well known to be one of the most docile of the hots (not to be confused with harmless or safe, theyre not a ball. But they arent the strike happy pychopaths that say, T. insularis or N. naja are). But they, like all viperae, are fast when they want to be. Theyre also very short and stubby. Freehandling a gaboon, unless you can secure the head, is dangerous simply because of how little space there is for error. Youre that much closer to the head and therefore have that much less reaction time. Or something like the mamba, or the boomslang that are known for their extremely fast strikes (and potent venom) id prefer just to have the extra distance and reaction time. The otherside of the coin, i have quite a few true-cobras in my collection. And while any one of them will be a bad day if they actually get a hit in they are also generally very motion oriented species. They are also considerably longer then most viperae so you have more space to manouvre. Those I'll use the hook to bring them out or move enough of their body close enough to safely lift, but after that I'll mostly freehandle unless someone is feeling particularly cankerous that day or is in blue (in which case unless i need to have them out i leave them the fuck alone). Other species like my bratty insularis it depends on the snakes mood that day. If its a feeding day ill be a bit more cautious and make full use of the hook maybe using my hand a little becausetheyll be more strike happy (also my insularis is a pychopath even if hes awesome). If hes in a calm mood i might use the hook for getting him out but use my hands for the rest of the handling with the hook nearby if need be. Mind, i have emergency drawers under the enclosures so worst case scenario i can let the snake go and theyll naturally head there to be under something and i can just slide a door in and across and take the whole damn thing out without having to touch the snake at all if i underestimate the cancerousness of someone. Useful if i have to transport to as they're the same regulation for transportation of hots, i can just line it with a bag in there first then tie of the bag. A lot of it comes to knowledge and respecting the snake. Even the calmest of hots is still a hot. And what works for me might not work for others. I have no problem freehandling cobras because its one of my most worked with species and im very comfortable both with the species itself and the individuals in my collection. But I know keepers who would treat even my Rinkhal like they're medusa herself. One of my biggest pet peeves though is with the popularity of social media platforms like YT and instagram is the amount of hots keepers who want the views and are mishandling their venomous snakes, not giving them the respect they deserve, then having near misses or getting bit. There was one guy who lost a finger because he played fuck around and find out with a cobra in blue while freehandling it. Guess what, he found out. I have no sympathy for these kind of people when they get bit. Along with people who go messing about in the enclosure without securing their snake/standing in front of the open glass while trying to figure out where the snake is. If you cant see the head then stand to the side a bit and use a hook. At least if the snake comes flying out unexpectedly then they wont be coming directly at you. Its just being a responsible keeper. Sorry but if you play fuck about and find out with a snake that can strike, recoil, and strike again before you have even registered or reacted to the initial movement then you deserve to find out. Im not saying that keepers should have full bomb squad gear for every snake either. But there are things that can reduce risks that a lot of keepers on social media arent taking because it doesnt look cool to viewers or its not as impressive for viewers to see. Yes, its super cool to see a massive venomous hooded snake being manouvered with bare hands. I assure you its just as impressive in real life as on a screen and its just as satisfying to do. But if the snake is known to be a cankerous asshat, maybe dont reach in to pull it out where your hand is limited in space and reaction time. Maybe use a hook to free up enough of the body to safely extract by hand and THEN freehandle. The way ive seen some YT handlers handle their hots i can tell you the only reason they dont get bit sometimes is the snake isnt that committed to it. Remember, if a snake cant get away theyd rather threaten you (even if that means a half assed strike) then waste venom if they can get away with it. Some viperae can strike faster then the human eye can process, i guarentee you if youre within strike range and they seriously want to get you then you're fucked. You literally can not physically respond in time it takes you to process whats happening in some species. Which is why responsible keepers try bot to play fuck around and find out. I mean, ive known people who have been in the hobby of keeping or working with hots for 40-50yrs and never once been bit or had any major heart stopping moments in their careers. Then you have some 20-30yr olds who have had near misses every other time they upload or get bit every other year. It doesnt take a genius to figure out why the discrepancy is there.

    To Liz 🍺 You got this brother, whatever road you choose, you got this. I’m new here, only have just today seen 5 of your videos (2 from before the tragedy and the three latest). I’m deeply sorry for the loss of your wife and to your children for the loss of their mother. Do whatever it is to be the best dad you can be. If that’s shows and no YT, do that. If it’s the opposite, try that. Keep those kiddos in the forefront of everything you do and you’ll all get through this. All love, brother.

    That funnel web is itching for him to try her and as aggressive as a kjIIer bee! Frightening! He's way too close and not nearly attentive enough for my tastes(almost like he's trying to mimic what Steve Irwin did). It's like having a package that has sensors geared to explode and you're near it stomping trying to see how much force it will tolerate before you become a victim...

    What about not using a stun gun to neutralize the venom? An old dude got bitten by a pigmy rattlesnake very recently and he is claiming that it works. He said he only had a tiny tazer at hand so he had to go to the hospital, but if he had a stun gun he would have used it. Just idiotic to spread such dangerous misinformation on UA-cam. If you want you can watch it at the Genesis Baptist Church channel. The video is the latest "Comments On Comments". Time stamps: 0:37 and 6:32. Have a safe day!

    He's a beauty. I have a dumb question. I've always heard that that snakes with rounded heads and round pupils are non-venomous. This fella has a rounded head and his eyes are very dark, but don't seem to have those vertical pupils. Is the thing about head shape and pupils a myth or merely a guideline but not hard and fast rule? If I saw this handsome guy slithering around the woods in Florida, I would think he was pretty safe. I would leave him alone, but I wouldn't worry about him at all, not like the big 4: copperhead, rattler, coral, or cottonmouth.

    • @WickedWildlife
      @WickedWildlife Місяць тому

      It’s a rule that likely was true in what ever small region it was made up in, but doesn’t work globally, here in Australia pretty well all our venomous snakes have round pupils (but still can’t rely on it) In the US your coral snakes would be the same
